Mairie Lomont

Lomont is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Lomont is located at an altitude of 378 m above sea level, eleven kilometers southeast of Lure and about 19 kilometers west of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the southern foothills of the Vosges , in a cleared island in the hill country between the Bois de Granges and the Chérimont .

The area of the 11.35 km² large municipal area includes a section in the southern Vosges foothills. The central part of the area is occupied by a plateau inclined slightly to the west, which is on average 380 m and is made of red sandstone . It is mainly made up of arable and meadow land. This plateau is delimited in the south and in the north by valley cuts: in the south the border runs along the Ruisseau de Courmont , in the north along the Fau . Both rivers flow into the Rognon , which is part of the Ognon catchment area . The steep valley slopes are forested. To the east, the terrain rises to the forest-covered height of Lomont, where Lomont's highest point is reached at 466 m.

Lomont includes the hamlets of Lomontot (365 m) and Le Chênoley (350 m), both located on the Lomont plateau. Neighboring municipalities of Lomont are Lyoffans , Magny-Jobert , Frédéric-Fontaine and Clairegoutte in the north, Belverne in the east, Courmont , Faymont and Mignavillers in the south and Moffans-et-Vacheresse in the west.

history

Lomont was first mentioned in a document in 1195. The spellings Lomunt (1208), Loomunt , Loomont , Lemont and Losmunt have also come down to us from a later period . The Lords of Lomont had served as vassals of the Counts of Montbéliard since 1298. Together with Franche-Comté , Lomont finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Until 1793, Lomont was owned by Louis Marie Florent de Lomont d'Haraucourt, duc du Châtelet. The area changed in 1808 when the previously independent municipalities of Lomontot and Courmont were combined with Lomont. Courmont has been independent again since 1831. Today Lomont is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure, which encompasses 22 villages .

Attractions

The church of St. Martin in Lomont was rebuilt in the 18th century on the site of a medieval church and has a rich interior . Next to the church is an 18th century house that once served as a pigeon house. The Fontaine- Lavoir (fountain, former wash house and cattle trough) dates from the 19th century .

With 443 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Lomont is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (783 people were still counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Lomont was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the Lure region and in the Belfort-Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road D438, which has four lanes and no intersections, and leads from Belfort to Lure. Further road connections exist with Courmont, Faymont, Moffans and Lyoffans.
