Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans is located at an altitude of 310 m above sea level, eight kilometers east of Villersexel and about 30 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The street village extends in a hollow on the northwestern edge of the hilly landscape that extends between the river valleys of Ognon and Doubs .

The area of ​​the 9.14 km² municipal area covers a section of the hilly landscape southeast of the Ognon valley. The central part of the area is crossed by the valley basin of the Ruisseau de la Prairie , which, with its source streams, ensures drainage to the northwest to the Scey . The valley is flanked by the Bois Dessus (up to 372 m) in the north, the Mignafans plateau in the northeast and the Höhe von Georfans in the southwest. The plateau, which is mainly used for agriculture, is on average 360 ​​m. It is made up partly of shell limestone , partly of sandy-marly layers of the lias . With a narrow tip of the community area extending eastward across the height of Courbenans until the source of the Scey and the plateau of a resistant layer of scale of the middle Jurassic existing Bois de la Pérouse . The highest point of Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans is reached here at 493 m.

The double community consists of the two districts Vellechevreux (310 m) in a side valley of the Ruisseau de la Prairie and Courbenans (350 m) at the north foot of the Bois de la Pérouse at a source stream of the Scey. Neighboring communities of Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans are Senargent-Mignafans and Secenans in the north, Crevans-et-la-Chapelle-lès-Granges , Gémonval and Marvelise in the east, Courchaton in the south and Georfans and Saint-Ferjeux in the west.

history

An important necropolis from the Merovingian period (7th and 8th centuries) with around 120 graves was discovered in the La Pouge corridor . In the Middle Ages, Vellechevreux and Courbenans belonged to the Granges rule, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with Franche-Comté , both villages came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1807 Vellechevreux and Courbenans merged to form a double community. Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans has been a member of the Pays de Villersexel community association since 2000 .

Attractions

The Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre church originally dates from the 17th century, but was largely rebuilt in the 19th century. It has a rich interior, including statues and reliefs from the 18th century. Next to the church is the Maison de Jean Finot, which was built in the 18th century. In Courbenans there is a house with an octagonal tower from the 16th century, which once served as a hunting lodge for the Counts of Montbéliard.

With 128 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (409 people were still counted in 1886), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded afterwards.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various local small businesses, including those in the transport and combustion industries. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the vicinity and in the Belfort-Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road D9, which leads from Héricourt to Villersexel. Other regional road links with Lure and L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs .
