The only notable tributary in the municipality is the Ruisseau du Ballon, which flows from the east .

In the west, north, east and south-east the border runs on the watershed to the adjoining valleys. In the west, the valley of the Ognon is flanked by the Bois du Ménil and the Plateau des Mille Étangs (up to 780 m). To the north, the pass of the Col des Croix leads over to the valley of the Moselle . To the east of this saddle is the Tête des Noirs Étangs (924 m). The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the valley system of the Ruisseau du Ballon and its tributary Ruisseau des Fonderies . history

In the Middle Ages, Château-Lambert and Haut-du-Them belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rule was initially held by the Lords of Faucogney. The area was bought by the Lure monastery in 1532. However, there were several disputes between Lure and the Dukes of Lorraine. Together with Franche-Comté, Château-Lambert and Haut-du-Them finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

From the 15th to the 18th century, copper and lead mines were exploited at Château-Lambert . Château-Lambert has always been an independent municipality, while Haut-du-Them was only separated from Servance in 1841 and also became independent. During the 19th century, the iron and wood processing industry established itself in the valley of the Ognon. Furthermore, weaving and spinning mills determined economic life. With the opening of the tram from Lure to Haut-du-Them (1895) and the opening of the tunnel to Le Thillot (1912), the place was connected to the public transport network. However, the line was stopped again at the beginning of World War II. In 1972, Haut-du-Them and Château-Lambert united to form a double community. Today, Haut-du-Them-Château-Lambert is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Haute Vallée de l'Ognon, comprising 12 localities .
