Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. With 59 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Georfans is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (153 people were still counted in 1896), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Georfans was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The residents who work in the village still live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Saint-Ferjeux to Fallon .
