Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras is located at an altitude of 290 m above sea level, three kilometers east of Vauvillers and about 33 kilometers north of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, on a ridge south of the valley of the Côney , west of the Charbeaumont on the edge of the plateau La Vôge .

The area of ​​the 14.90 km² municipal area covers a section in the gently undulating landscape east of the upper Saône valley . The central part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is an average of 300 m and is mainly used for agriculture. At 331 m, the highest point of Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras is reached on the Charbeaumont east of the village. The Mailleroncourt plateau is bounded in the east by the lowland of the Superbe and in the northwest by the valleys of the source streams of the Ruisseau de la Prairie (tributary of the Côney), namely the Ruisseau du Moulin and the Ru de Naud .

To the north, the municipal area extends into the extensive forest area of ​​the Grand Bois de la Vaivre and the Bois de la Craie . The northern boundary is marked by the Côney, which flows through an alluvial lowland to the west to the Saône. The valley level lies at an average of 245 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer.

In geological and tectonic terms, the southern part of the municipal area consists of shell limestone from the Middle Triassic . To the north there is a zone with sandy-marl and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In the Grand Bois de la Vaivre, red sandstone from the Lower Triassic comes to light.

The double municipality consists of the place Mailleroncourt (290 m) and the hamlet of Saint-Pancras (300 m). Neighboring municipalities of Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras are Pont-du-Bois , Ambiévillers and Le Magny in the north, Fontenois-la-Ville and Betoncourt-Saint-Pancras in the east, Girefontaine and Melincourt in the south and Vauvillers in the west.

history

Mailleroncourt is mentioned for the first time in 1310. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Saint-Loup held local rule . Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1806 Mailleroncourt and Saint-Pancras merged to form a double parish.

With 192 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Mailleroncourt-Saint-Pancras is one of the small communes of the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (571 people were still counted in 1886), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.
