Mairie La Longine

La Longine is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Longine is located at an altitude of 403 m above sea level, five kilometers north-northeast of Faucogney-et-la-Mer and about 44 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme north-east of the department, in the southwest Vosges , at the confluence of the Ruisseau de la Montagne in the Breuchin .

The area of the municipal area of 12.40 km² covers a section of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges, which is criss-crossed by valleys. From northeast to southwest the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage to the Lanterne . The flat flood plain averages 400 m and has a width of about 500 meters. It is mainly used for agriculture.

The valley of the Breuchin is sunk more than 200 m deep into the surrounding high plateau. To the south-east, the community soil extends to the edge of the Esmoulières plateau (up to 625 m). To the north, the municipality extends into the also deeply cut valley of the Ruisseau de la Montagne . This is bounded in the east by the heights of the Roches de la Louvière (752 m), in the west by a plateau that separates the valley systems of Breuchin and Combeauté . The plateau is mainly covered with forest ( Le Grand Roncey and Le Planot Bois ). At 770 m, the highest point of La Longine is reached in the Planot Bois. In the far west, the valley cut of a side stream of the Combeauté belongs to La Longine. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist partly of sediments that were deposited during the Lias , partly the crystalline bedrock emerges. Quaternary deposits can be found on the heights as well as in the valleys . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

In addition to the actual village, La Longine also includes various hamlets and farms:

  • Bussomagny (643 m) on the eastern slope of the Ruisseau de la Montagne
  • Pont de la Scie (576 m) on the eastern slope of the Ruisseau de la Montagne
  • La Croslière (572 m) on the western slope of the Ruisseau de la Montagne
  • La Grange (599 m) south of the Grand Roncey plateau

Neighboring municipalities of La Longine are La Montagne in the north, La Rosière and Corravillers in the east, Esmoulières and Amont-et-Effreney in the south and Saint-Bresson and Le Val-d'Ajol in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, La Longine belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since the middle of the 19th century, village life was shaped by the weaving mill, which later became a textile factory. Today La Longine is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 villages . The community does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Corravillers.

Attractions

In the center of the village there is a monumental cross from the 16th century, which is classified as a monument historique . The Calvaire in Longine-le-Haut was built in 1724.

Since then, the population has decreased by more than 60%.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economic life of La Longine was marked early on by the textile factory and the sawmills. However, agriculture and forestry also had a certain importance. Today there are some local small businesses, mainly in the kitchen equipment, wood processing and precision engineering sectors. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Luxeuil-les-Bains via Faucogney-et-la-Mer to Rupt-sur-Moselle . There are other road links with Saint-Bresson, Le Val-d'Ajol and La Montagne.
