Villa fans is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Villafans is located at an altitude of 280 m above sea level, five kilometers northeast of Villersexel and about 24 kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plain of Villersexel, in a basin of the Ruisseau des Noyes-Vergers in the catchment area of ​​the Ognon .

The area of ​​the 6.44 km² large municipality covers a section of the flat land near Villersexel. The central part of the area is occupied by a gently undulating landscape, which is drained from the village stream Ruisseau des Noyes-Vergers south to the Scey . The Scey flows with numerous turns through a wide alluvial plain to the west to the Ognon. It forms the southern boundary of the municipality and receives various other tributaries on the soil of Villafans, including the Rognon and the Ruisseau Basse-Fontaine . The terrain with low relief is mainly used for agriculture, but also shows some forest areas. To the north, the community area extends over the wooded ridges of the Grand Bois , on which the highest elevation for villa fans is reached at 361 m. These hills are made up of limestone layers from the middle Jurassic period . With a narrow tip, the area extends northwards into the valley of the Ruisseau de la Saline .

Neighboring communities of Villafans are Gouhenans in the north, Athesans-Étroitefontaine and Senargent-Mignafans in the east, Beveuge and Villers-la-Ville in the south and Saint-Sulpice and Longevelle in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Villafans belonged to the Granges rule , which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Later it was part of the Villersexel lordship. Together with Franche-Comté , Villafans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2000, Villafans has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villersexel, which comprises 33 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Villafans was built in the 19th century. On the road to Étroitefontaine is an oratoire that was built in 1854. In the town center some houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône. Other sights include the covered lavoir (19th century) in the shape of a crescent moon, which once served as a fountain, wash house and cattle trough.

With 211 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Villafans is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (308 people were still counted in 1891), since then only relatively small fluctuations have been recorded.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Villafans was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Villersexel to Athesans-Étroitefontaine. Other road connections exist with Longevelle, Gouhenans and Villers-la-Ville.
