Genevreuille is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Genevreuille is located at an altitude of 303 m above sea level, nine kilometers west of Lure and about 18 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the central part of the department, in the valley basin of the Razou west of the plain of Lure, on the eastern edge of the heights of the Bois de Venet .

The area of the 6.42 km² municipal area covers a section in the undulating landscape between the basin of Vesoul in the west and the plain of Lure in the east. The central part of the area is taken up by the valley widening of Genevreuille, which lies at an average of 300 m and has a diameter of around one kilometer. The Razou rises in this basin, which is mainly used for agriculture . He ensures the drainage to the east over the Reigne to the Ognon .

The valley basin is flanked on three sides by hills: in the south by the Aigremont (361 m) and the Grand Bois de Mollans , in the west by the Bois de Venet (390 m) and in the north by the heights of the Châtillon (the highest point at 411 m from Genevreuille) and Mont Jarrot (408 m). From a geological and tectonic point of view, the terrain consists of alternating layers of sandy-marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). Shell limestone from the Middle Triassic also appears in some places .

Neighboring communities of Genevreuille are Adelans-et-le-Val-de-Bithaine in the north, Amblans-et-Velotte in the east, Mollans in the south and Pomoy and La Creuse in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Genevreuille belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Ronchamp and Montjustin . Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. With the opening of the railway line from Belfort via Lure to Vesoul, Genevreuille was connected to the French railway network in the mid-19th century. Today Genevreuille is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Franches-Communes, which comprises 14 localities .

Economy and Infrastructure

Genevreuille was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. Today there are some local small businesses, including an aluminum processing company. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N19, which leads from Vesoul via Lure to Belfort . Another road connection is with Mollans. The Paris – Mulhouse railway runs through the area ; the nearest train station is in Lure.
