Pont-sur-l'Ognon is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Pont-sur-l'Ognon is located at an altitude of 255 m above sea level, five kilometers southwest of Villersexel and about 20 kilometers southeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends on the western edge of the Villersexel plain, by a bridge over the Ognon , on the edge of the heights between the river valleys of Ognon and Doubs .
The area of the 4.16 km² municipal area covers a section of the lowlands near Villersexel. The northern border mostly runs along the Ognon, which flows here with numerous meanders through a wide lowland to the west. From the course of the river, the community area extends southward over the alluvial plain , which is on average 260 m and is mainly used for agriculture. A gently undulating landscape follows further to the south, and on a hill in the Bois derrière la Côte , at 315 m, the highest point of Pont-sur-l'Ognon is reached. In the east, the communal soil extends into the valley of the Bief d'Auta , a left tributary of the Ognon.
Neighboring municipalities of Pont-sur-l'Ognon are Esprels and Autrey-le-Vay in the north, Les Magny and Cubry in the east, Cubrial , Rougemont and Bonnal in the south and Chassey-lès-Montbozon in the west.
history
Pont-sur-l'Ognon was founded in 1211 by the prior of Marast at the crossing over the Ognon. It later belonged to Marast and shared its fate. Together with Franche-Comté , Pont-sur-l'Ognon finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. At the Ognon, trade, which was dependent on hydropower, was established early on. The Jacquinot brothers founded a forge in 1548. In the 19th century, the metalworking industry and a brick factory shaped the economic life of the village. Since 2000, Pont-sur-l'Ognon has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villersexel, which comprises 33 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Pont-sur-l'Ognon was rebuilt in 1764. The remarkable furnishings include a statue of Saint Peter (16th century) and furniture from the 18th century.
A manor house (now privately owned) with two square towers dates from the 17th century. The Mairie (community hall) building was constructed in 1883.

With 67 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Pont-sur-l'Ognon is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (109 people were counted in 1881), slight population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Pont-sur-l'Ognon was an industrial place very early on. Today there are some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Esprels to Cubrial. Further road connections exist with Bonnal and Les Magny.
Until 1959 the community had a stop on the Montbozon – Lure railway line . The municipal area has been partially crossed by the LGV Rhin-Rhône since December 2011.
