Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel is located at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, seven kilometers south-southeast of Vauvillers and about 27 kilometers north of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, in the lowlands on both sides of the Superbe , north of the heights of the Bois de la Mange .

The area of ​​the 13.91 km² municipal area covers a section in the gently undulating landscape east of the upper Saône valley . From northeast to southwest the area is crossed by the alluvial valley of the Superbe , which provides drainage to the Saône. The valley level is on average 240 m and has a width of about one kilometer. In the area of ​​Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel, the Superbe takes in the Ruisseau des Vaux from the north .

The valley is flanked on both sides by plateaus, which are around 270 m. Agricultural use prevails here. Larger forest areas can be found especially along the municipal boundaries. To the north of the village is the Anchenoncourt plateau, to the west the Bois de l'Abbé and the heights of Clairefontaine (up to 305 m). In the east and south-east, the municipal area extends into the forests of the Bois de la Mange and the Bois de l'Étang . At 355 m, the highest point of Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel is reached here. In geological and tectonic terms, the area consists of shell limestone from the Middle Triassic . Sandy-marl and calcareous sediments, which were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ) , also emerge in various places .

The double community consists of the village of Anchenoncourt (240 m) on the Superbe and the hamlet of Chazel (235 m) on the northern edge of the Superbe valley near the Clairefontaine monastery. Neighboring municipalities of Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel are Melincourt in the north and east, Saint-Rémy-en-Comté in the south and Polaincourt-et-Clairefontaine in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Anchenoncourt belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . The existence of the local aristocratic family, who named themselves after Anchenoncourt, has been documented since the 12th century. It went out in the 13th century. Subsequently, the village belonged to the lordship of Saint-Remy. During the Thirty Years War the place was sacked in 1637. Together with Franche-Comté , Anchenoncourt and Chazel finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1808 Anchenoncourt and Chazel (1806: 92 inhabitants) merged to form a double parish.

Attractions

The Church of St. Brictius ( Saint-Brice ) in Anchenoncourt was rebuilt in the 18th century. From Romanesque previous building from the 12th century only a few remains are preserved in the choir. The interior features a stone crucifix (15th century) and altars from the 18th century. In the Bois l'Abbé are the ruins of a medieval priory.

With 237 inhabitants (2007) Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (692 people were still counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Anchenoncourt-et-Chazel was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (agriculture, viticulture and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Saint-Remy to Melincourt. Further road connections exist with Dampierre-lès-Conflans, Cubry-lès-Faverney and Polaincourt.
