Villargent is a French commune in the Haute-Saône department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Villargent is located at an altitude of 286 m above sea level, four kilometers east of Villersexel and about 26 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plain of Villersexel west of the lowland of the Ruisseau de Beveuge in the catchment area of ​​the Ognon .

The area of ​​the 2.86 km² municipal area includes a section of the lowlands near Villersexel. The central part of the area is crossed from south to north by the lowland of the Ruisseau de Beveuge , which provides drainage to the Scey . This valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau that averages 290 m. It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas, especially in the south. To the west of the village, at 300 m, the highest point of Villargent is reached.

Villargent's neighboring municipalities are Beveuge in the north, Saint-Ferjeux and Georfans in the east, Mélecey in the south and Villers-la-Ville in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Villargent belonged to the Grammont dominion , with the Marast priory also having property in the village. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. After that, in the 18th century, it was under the influence of the Lords of Grammont, who now resided in Villersexel. Since 2000, Villargent has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villersexel, which comprises 33 villages . Ecclesiastically, the place belongs to the parish of Mélecey.

With 120 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Villargent is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. Throughout the 20th century, the population was always between 90 and 125 people.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Villargent was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road from Villersexel to Héricourt . There are other road links with Beveuge and Fallon .
