La Villedieu-en-Fontenette is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Villedieu-en-Fontenette is located at an altitude of 260 m above sea level, seven kilometers east of Faverney and about 17 kilometers north of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, on a slope inclined slightly to the north, above the basin of the Ruisseau de la Grande Eau , south of the wide valley floor of the Lanterne .

The area of the 9.65 km² municipal area includes a section of the gently undulating landscape south of the lantern. The northern part of the municipality is crossed from east to west by the alluvial lowland of the Ruisseau de Meurecourt , which provides drainage to the lantern . The valley level is on average 235 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The forest of the Bois Lajus (up to 263 m) extends north of this stream .

To the south, the terrain gradually rises to a plateau made up of shell limestone from the Middle Triassic . It is subdivided by several hollows of small side valleys of the Ruisseau de Meurecourt , including those of the Ruisseau de la Grande Eau and the Ruisseau le Riolet . This section is mainly used for agriculture. Further south, a step leads to the wooded heights of Bois de Lauxon (336 m) and Homme Dessus . The highest point of La Villedieu-en-Fontenette is reached on its northern slope at 397 m. In addition to shell limestone, sandy-marl and calcareous sediments come to light here, which were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

The neighboring municipalities of La Villedieu-en-Fontenette are Meurcourt in the east, Neurey-en-Vaux in the south and Équevilley in the west and north.

history

Remains of two Roman traffic routes indicate a very early inspection and settlement of the area. Originally the place was called Fontenette (meaning small spring ). In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The Hospitallers settled here and founded a hospital in 1186 called Villa dei (House of God). For a long time, La Villedieu was a pilgrimage destination where Saint-Germain d'Auxerre was venerated. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. At the beginning of the 20th century, La Villedieu-en-Fontenette was connected to the public transport network by a tram. Operation on the line was discontinued in 1934 and replaced by a bus connection. Today La Villedieu-en-Fontenette is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx, which comprises 17 localities .
