Mairie from Amont-et-Effreney

Amont-et-Effreney is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Amont-et-Effreney is located at an altitude of 393 m above sea level, four kilometers north of Faucogney-et-la-Mer and about 43 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The scattered settlement community extends in the extreme northeast of the department, in the valley of the Breuchin in the southwestern Vosges .

The area of the 16.83 km² municipal area covers a section of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges, which is criss-crossed by valleys. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage to the Lanterne . The flat flood plain averages 380 m and is a maximum of one kilometer wide. It is mainly used for agriculture.

The valley of the Breuchin is sunk more than 200 m deep into the surrounding high plateau. The steep, mostly wooded slopes are subdivided by various short side streams of the Breuchin. To the east, the communal soil extends to the edge of the Esmoulières plateau (up to 625 m). On its west side, the valley is flanked by the heights of Les Grandes Rayes and Bois de Châtillon . At 661 m, Amont-et-Effreney's highest point is reached above Effreney. The plateau shows a loose structure of forest, pasture land, heathland and moors. It reaches an average height of 600 m. In the basin there are various small lakes, most of which are of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacial grinding. Some have also been dammed up and are used for fish farming.

From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist partly of sediments that were deposited during the Lias , partly the crystalline bedrock emerges. Quaternary deposits can be found on the heights as well as in the valleys . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

Amont-et-Effreney consists of different settlements, hamlets and farms:

  • La Rochotte (393 m) in the Breuchin valley, location of the municipal administration
  • La Ferrière (386 m) in the Breuchin valley
  • Les Mottes (372 m) in the Breuchin valley
  • Les Voivres (546 m) at the height west of the Breuchin valley
  • Effreney (590 m) in a hollow west of the Breuchin Valley
  • Châtillon (595 m) at the height of the Bois de Châtillon

Neighboring municipalities of Amont-et-Effreney are La Longine in the north, Esmoulières in the east, Faucogney-et-la-Mer , La Voivre and Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois in the south and Saint-Bresson in the west.

history

Amont-et-Effreney was first mentioned in a document in 1091. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and within it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Amont-et-Effreney is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 localities .

Attractions

The Saint-Claude chapel in Ferrière-le-Bas was built in the 17th century. There are two other chapels at Effreney and La Voivre and several Calvaires , including the one at Mont-Dahin, which is dated to the 16th century. The hamlets are characterized by farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries that show the traditional style of the region.

Economy and Infrastructure

Amont-et-Effreney is still a predominantly agricultural (arable and livestock), forestry and fish farming village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Luxeuil-les-Bains via Faucogney-et-la-Mer to Rupt-sur-Moselle . Other road links exist with Saint-Bresson and Esmoulières.
