Corravillers is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Corravillers is located at an altitude of 455 m above sea level, seven kilometers northeast of Faucogney-et-la-Mer and about 46 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme northeast of the department, in the southwestern Vosges , in a valley widening of the Breuchin .

The area of the 11.20 km² municipal area covers a section of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges, which is criss-crossed by valleys. From east to west the area is crossed by the valley of the Breuchin, which provides drainage to the Lanterne . The flat flood plain is 450 m on average and is a maximum of one kilometer wide. It is mainly used for agriculture.

The valley of the Breuchin is sunk about 200 m deep into the surrounding high plateau. The valley slopes are subdivided by the erosion channels of various short side streams of the Breuchin. North of the Breuchin Valley, the border runs along the lower valley slope. To the south, the municipal area extends to the adjacent high plateau of Esmoulières, which belongs to the Plateau des Mille Étangs . The plateau shows a loose structure of forest, pasture land, heathland and moors. It reaches an average height of 660 m. There are numerous small lakes here, most of which are of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacial grinding. Some of these ponds have also been dammed and are used for fish farming.

Col du Mont de Fourche

To the northeast of the Breuchin, the Col du Mont de Fourche (621 m) forms the transition into the valley of the Moselle . The border runs on this watershed with the forest tops of the Bouloye (687 m), the Bois des Breuches (703 m) and the Bois du Murot (728 m). In the far east, in the Bois des Ravières , the highest point of Corravillers is reached at 768 m. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist partly of sediments that were deposited during the Lias , partly the crystalline bedrock emerges. Quaternary deposits can be found on the heights as well as in the valleys . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

In addition to the actual village, Corravillers also includes various hamlets and farms:

  • Le Petit Corravillers (484 m) in the Breuchin valley
  • Esfoz (487 m) in the Breuchin valley
  • Le Court (625 m) on the northern edge of the Esmoulières plateau

Neighboring municipalities of Corravillers are La Rosière and Rupt-sur-Moselle in the north, Ferdrupt in the east, Beulotte-Saint-Laurent and Esmoulières in the south and La Longine in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages Corravillers belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney, who were represented by the noble family of Corravillers. Since the 13th century Corravillers formed a parish. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The official name of the municipality was Le Plain-de-Corravillers, until the current short name was introduced in 1974. Today Corravillers is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 villages .

Today there are some local small businesses, mainly in the wood processing and precision engineering industries. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
