Les Aynans is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Les Aynans is located at an altitude of 280 m above sea level, eight kilometers south-southwest of Lure and about 22 kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The elongated street village extends in the central part of the department, in the wide valley plain on the western bank of the Ognon , on the southern edge of the plain of Lure.

The area of the 7.82 km² large municipal area includes a section of the plain of Lure. The area is crossed by the Ognon from north-northeast to south-southwest. This flows with several turns through an alluvial lowland , which averages 275 m and has a width of a maximum of three kilometers. In the municipality, the Ognon receives tributaries from the Rahin and the Gros Varale . The plain is mainly used for agriculture.

To the west, the community area extends into the forest of the Bois de la Vaivre and to the Ruisseau des Pontcey , another tributary of the Ognon. In the north, the valley level is flanked by the Bois de Sansbois hill . The eastern boundary runs on the western slope of the Mont . The highest point of Les Aynans is reached here at 335 m. On this ridge, sandy-marl and calcareous sediments emerge, which were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ) and the Middle Jurassic Period .

Neighboring municipalities of Les Aynans are Vy-lès-Lure and Vouhenans in the north, Le Val-de-Gouhenans and Gouhenans in the east, Longevelle and Aillevans in the south and Arpenans in the west.

history

Les Aynans is first mentioned in 1145 under the name Aynans . Haignen's spelling has been handed down from 1307 . Later, a distinction was made between the two localities Aynans-Dessus (in the north) and Aynans-Dessous (in the south), and in 1770 the name Les Deux Aynans appears. In the Middle Ages, Les Aynans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . It formed its own rule. In 1346 the place was set on fire by the Lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, Les Aynans is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure, which comprises 22 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Saint-Léger in Les Aynans was rebuilt in 1846. It houses a pulpit, an altar and a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary from the 18th century as well as four gold-plated bronze chandeliers in the Louis XIII style. A tower from the 16th century stands south of the village.

With 351 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Les Aynans is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (557 people were still counted in 1906), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Les Aynans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. The water power of the Ognon was previously used to operate a mill. Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses. The most important company is an electroplating company. The precision mechanics and wood processing industries are also represented. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. Les Aynans is the location of a campsite.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Vy-lès-Lure to Longevelle. Further road connections exist with Arpenans, Vouhenans and Gouhenans.
