Baudoncourt is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Baudoncourt is located at an altitude of 263 m above sea level, five kilometers southwest of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 22 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, in the Luxeuil plain west of the Vosges , on both sides of the Lanterne .

The area of the 7.57 km² large municipal area covers a section of the Luxeuil plain. From east to west the area is traversed by the lantern, which draws several turns. The alluvial plain lies at an average of 260 m and is mainly used for agriculture. There are three ponds northwest of the village. To the south, the municipality extends to the heights of the Côte Saint-André . At 294 m, Baudoncourt's highest point is reached here. It is made from shell limestone from the Middle Triassic . The western boundary runs in the lowlands of the Ruisseau de la Mouroie , a left tributary of the Lanterne. Baudoncourt is the site of a heron colony.

The settlement of Les Varennes (264 m) south of the Lanterne belongs to Baudoncourt . Neighboring municipalities of Baudoncourt are Breuches and Saint-Sauveur in the north, La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil in the east, Brotte-lès-Luxeuil and Visoncourt in the south and Éhuns in the west.

history

The area around Baudoncourt was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Here three Gallo-Roman grave stelae were discovered that were built into the facade of a house. A burial ground testifies to the settlement in Burgundian times. Baudoncourt is mentioned in a document in the 9th century. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The local rulership was initially held by the Luxeuil monastery and, from the end of the 13th century, by the lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , Baudoncourt finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The formerly important palace of the abbots of Luxeuil was demolished in 1704. Today Baudoncourt is a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil, which comprises 13 localities .

Attractions

The village church of Baudoncourt was rebuilt in the 18th century and redesigned in the 19th century. Only a few remains of the former castle are visible. The large, covered lavoir was built in 1880 and used to serve as a wash house and cattle trough.

With 533 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Baudoncourt is one of the smaller municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (821 people were still counted in 1886), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

For a long time, Baudoncourt was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses, mainly in the textile industry, furniture construction and ironwork. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. A large part of the runway systems of the Aérodrome de Luxeuil-Saint-Sauveur military airfield is located in the municipality of Baudoncourt.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N57, which leads from Luxeuil-les-Bains to Vesoul. There are other road connections with La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil, Éhuns and Breuches.
