La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil is located at an altitude of 265 m above sea level, five kilometers south of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 23 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, in the Luxeuil plain, on the Lanterne , on the western edge of the Vay de Brest forest .

The area of ​​the 7.69 km² municipal area includes a section of the Luxeuil plain. The main part of the area is taken up by this alluvial plain , which averages 265 m. The most important watercourse is the Lanterne, which crosses the area from east to west and provides drainage to the Saône . At La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil it takes the Ruisseau du Vay de Brest from the right and the Ru du Bas from the left . Agricultural use predominates at this level. To the east, the area extends with a narrow tip over the plain into the extensive forest of the Vay de Brest . At 310 m, the highest point of La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil is reached in the far east. In the south, the community area extends to the foot of the heights of Mont d'Ahie .

history

Remains of a Roman traffic route indicate an early inspection and possibly also settlement of the area. The origin of the settlement was a medieval chapel. In the Middle Ages, La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of ​​the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Luxeuil held local rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil, which comprises 13 localities .

Attractions

The village church of the Holy Cross of La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil was built in 1777 and houses a baptismal font from the 16th century. The Chapelle de la Vierge dates from the 19th century.

With 382 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (487 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

For a long time, La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil was mainly characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various small and medium-sized businesses, especially in the wood and metal processing industries. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. In the north, La Chapelle-lès-Luxeuil has a share in the runway systems of the Aérodrome de Luxeuil-Saint-Sauveur military airfield.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N57, which leads from Vesoul via Luxeuil-les-Bains to Remiremont . There are other road connections with Saint-Sauveur, Baudoncourt, Dambenoît and Citers.
