Culture and sights
The Saints Pierre et Paul basilica (parish church since 1840) has its origins in the 13th and 14th centuries; only one of its three towers remains, which was renovated in 1527. Inside the church are the baroque organ front from the 17th century, the pulpit from Notre-Dame in Paris from 1806, a sculpture of Christ lying on a stone table from the 16th century and the neo-Gothic reliquary of St. Columban worth seeing. The choir stalls date from the 16th century.
More than a dozen warm springs (43–63 ° C) already invited the Romans to take a bath . The oldest thermal bath in France was built here in the 18th century. The historic thermal building, which is now modern, is located in a park in the north of the city.
The Hôtel du Cardinal Jouffroy , which is a Renaissance house , was named after an abbot of Luxeuil, who later became Archbishop of Albi and Cardinal . At times it was inhabited by Madame de Sévigné , Augustin Thierry , Alphonse de Lamartine and André Theuriet . Opposite is the Musée de la Tour des Echevins (15th century), which shows Gallo-Roman finds and some paintings.
The Conservatoire de la dentelle cultivates knowledge of the lace craft that contributed to its prosperity.
