geography

Froideconche is located at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, two and a half kilometers east of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 30 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The area of the 16.04 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Luxeuil plain. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the lowland of the Breuchin, which provides drainage to the Lanterne . To the north-east of Froideconche, the Breuchin emerges from a narrow passage into the Luxeuil plain and widens its lowland, which is an average of 300 m, to a width of about two kilometers. The alluvial plain exists outside the settlement area of Wiesland. On the south side, the valley level is bounded by the Bois de Laleau .

To the north, the municipal area extends over the adjacent ridge, which is covered by extensive forests: Bois d'Emery and Les Grandes Coupes . It is subdivided by several short valleys which reach the Breuchin level at Froideconche. The brooks Morbief and Ruisseau de la Cubette are dammed into ponds in several places, which are used for fish farming. The northern border runs at the level of Saint-Valbert, which forms the watershed between the catchment areas of Breuchin and Combeauté . At 436 m, the highest point of Froideconche is reached on the plateau of Chapendu in the far northeast. In geological and tectonic terms, these heights are made up of crystalline bedrock and Permian layers.

In addition to the actual village, Froideconche includes the settlements of La Corveraine (313 m) on the northern edge of the Breuchin valley and Bouhay d'Aval (322 m) at the entrance of the Breuchin into the Luxeuil plain. Neighboring municipalities of Froideconche are
