Village view

Clairegoutte is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Clairegoutte is located at an altitude of 330 m above sea level, ten kilometers east-southeast of Lure and about 18 kilometers west of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the eastern part of the department, in the valley basin of the Clairegoutte, at the western foot of the heights of the Chérimont .

The area of the 10.48 km² large municipality covers a section in the undulating landscape southeast of the Lure plain. The western part of the area is occupied by the valley basin of the Clairegoutte, which provides drainage to the southwest to the Rognon . The alluvial lowland averages 320 m. This area is mainly used for agriculture.

To the east, the community area extends over the densely wooded western slope of the Chérimont to its summit, where Clairegoutte's highest point is reached at 589 m. The sources of the Clairegoutte and its side streams are located on this slope. The slope is subdivided by several erosion channels. With a long, narrow tip, the communal soil extends south to a wooded spur of the Chérimont (up to 521 m) between the valley cuts of the Ruisseau de Fau and its side stream Ruisseau des Battants . From a geological and tectonic point of view, the area is made up of red sandstone from the Lower Triassic . Permian strata also emerge in the valley cuts.

Neighboring municipalities of Clairegoutte are Magny-Danigon and Champagney in the north, Étobon in the east, Belverne , Lomont , Frédéric-Fontaine and Magny-Jobert in the south and Andornay in the west.

history

The Clairegoutte area was probably reclaimed as early as the 8th or 9th century. Until 1331 the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Then it came to the county of Montbéliard . In the further course Clairegoutte was affected several times by fires and wars. It was set on fire in 1341, devastated by the Écorcheurs in 1439 , destroyed by Charles the Bold around 1480 , plundered again in 1583 and finally hit by a plague epidemic in 1635. In 1541 Clairegoutte was raised to a parish. With the occupation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. Clairegoutte was particularly known for its cherry production in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today Clairegoutte is a member of the community association Communauté de communes Rahin et Cherimont, which comprises nine towns .

Attractions

The Lutheran village church ( Église luthérienne; original patronage of Notre-Dame) dates from the Middle Ages (12th century), but was largely rebuilt in 1734 and is now classified as a monument historique . The bell tower was added in 1777 as one of the construction work on twenty churches in the county and once dependent territories that were rebuilt or renovated on behalf of Charles Eugen during his long reign. The Saint-Bernard Catholic Chapel was built in 1962. The nail forge and the oil mill were built in the 18th century. Other sights include the Mairie-École (municipal administration and school) building from 1844 and eight fountains dating from 1875 to 1880, including the Fontaine-Lavoir de la Cure with the bust of the pastor GD Durot.

With 379 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Clairegoutte is one of the smaller municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (539 people were counted in 1881), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Clairegoutte was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are various local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Belfort-Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Ronchamp to Villersexel . Further road connections exist with Magny-Danigon and Frédéric-Fontaine.
