Mairie Ormoiche

Ormoiche is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Ormoiche is located at an altitude of 253 m above sea level, five kilometers west of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 24 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, in the Luxeuil plain west of the Vosges , north of the river Breuchin .

The area of the municipality of 5.72 km² covers a section of the Luxeuil plain. From south to north the area is traversed by the lantern , which draws several turns. The alluvial plain lies at an average of 250 m and is mainly used for agriculture. To the west of the village, the Breuchin flows into the Lanterne, which in sections marks the southern border.

To the northwest of Ormoiche, the Lanterne flows through a valley that separates the forest heights of Mont Marot (290 m) in the west from the ridge of the Forêt des Sept-Chevaux in the east. This is subdivided by the valleys of various short side streams of the Breuchin and the Lanterne. At 316 m, Ormoiche's highest point is reached in the Forêt des Sept-Chevaux . The ridge consists partly of calcareous and sandy-marl sediments of the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ), partly also red sandstone of the lower Triassic and the crystalline basement.

Neighboring communities of Ormoiche are Hautevelle in the north, Breuches in the east and south and Sainte-Marie-en-Chaux and Francalmont in the west.

history

Wall foundations of a large Gallo-Roman country estate indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages Ormoiche belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The monastery of Luxeuil held local rule . Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The Hautevelle priory also had rights and property in the village. Today Ormoiche is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil, which comprises 13 villages . Ormoiche belongs to the parish of Breuches.

Attractions

Two Calvaires from the 18th century, the village fountain and various houses from the 17th to 19th centuries that show the traditional style of the Haute-Saône are worth seeing .

With 65 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Ormoiche is one of the smallest municipalities in the Haute-Saône department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (181 people were still counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Ormoiche is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Luxeuil-les-Bains to Conflans-sur-Lanterne .
