Les Magny is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Les Magny is located at an altitude of 280 m above sea level, three kilometers south of Villersexel and about 24 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plain of Villersexel, in the lowlands of the Ruisseau de Peute-Vue in the catchment area of the Ognon , on the northern edge of the hilly landscape between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs .
The area of the 11.46 km² municipal area covers a section of the lowlands near Villersexel. The main part of the area is taken up by the wide lowland of the Ruisseau de Peute-Vue , which averages 280 m. The stream crosses the area from east to west and provides drainage to the Ognon. To the north, the communal soil extends to a plateau (around 300 m above sea level) made of shell limestone . It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. In the west, the Ognon forms the border, which here meanders through a wide valley. To the south, the municipality extends over the mostly flat land with the extensive forest of Les Grands Bois to the stream of the Bief d'Auta , another left tributary of the Ognon. In the far south the terrain rises to the ridge of the Bois du Chanoi , on which the highest elevation of Les Magny is reached at 387 m.
The municipality of Les Magny consists of two districts:
- Le Grand-Magny (280 m) on the Ruisseau de Peute-Vue north of the Bois du Chanoi
- Le Petit-Magny (275 m) on the Ruisseau de Peute-Vue north of the Grands Bois
Neighboring municipalities of Les Magny are Villersexel and Villers-la-Ville in the north, Mélecey and Fallon in the east, Abbenans and Cubry in the south and Pont-sur-l'Ognon and Autrey-le-Vay in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, the area of Les Magny belonged to the Villersexel domain. Together with Franche-Comté , Le Petit-Magny and Le Grand-Magny finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since the time of the French Revolution , the two villages have formed the municipality of Les Magny. Since 2000, Les Magny has been a member of the Pays de Villersexel community association, which comprises 33 localities .
Attractions
The Notre-Dame de la Nativité church, which was built in the 17th century, is located in Le Grand-Magny. The place is characterized by numerous houses from the 17th to 19th centuries in the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône. Also in Le Grand-Magny are the Mairie (town hall) and a lavoir from 1831, which once served as a fountain, wash house and cattle trough.

With 139 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Les Magny is one of the smallest communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (338 people were still counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Les Magny was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Villersexel to Fallon. There are other road connections with Villers-la-Ville, Autrey-le-Vay and Pont-sur-l'Ognon.
