Mignavillers is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Mignavillers is located at an altitude of 282 m above sea level, nine kilometers east-northeast of Villersexel and about 30 kilometers east of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The street village extends in the wide valley of the river Scey , on the western edge of the hilly landscape of the Bois de Granges .
The area of the 7.59 km² municipal area includes a section in the catchment area of the Ognon . From east to west, the area is crossed by the valley of the Scey, which provides drainage to the Ognon. At Mignavillers it emerges from a narrow, wooded valley into the plain of Villersexel. The valley level is mainly used for agriculture. To the northeast, the terrain gradually rises to the mostly wooded plateaus of the Bois de Granges , which are subdivided by various erosion valleys. At 444 m, Mignavillers' highest point is reached here. The plateau forms the southwestern continuation of the Vosges and is mainly made of red sandstone . In the far north-east the municipal area extends into the valley of the Ruisseau de Courmont , which is also in the catchment area of the Scey.
Neighboring municipalities of Mignavillers are Moffans-et-Vacheresse , Lomont and Faymont in the north, Granges-le-Bourg and Granges-la-Ville in the east, Senargent-Mignafans in the south and Athesans-Étroitefontaine in the west.
history
The municipality of Mignavillers was already settled in prehistoric times, which has been proven by means of remains from the Neolithic and burial grounds. In the Middle Ages, Mignavillers belonged to the lordship of Granges, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
In 1807 Mignavillers merged with various other localities to form the large municipality of Granges-le-Bourg. When this large community was split up, Mignavillers came to Granges-la-Ville in 1824. In 1835 the place got its independence back. Since 2000 Mignavillers has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villersexel, which comprises 33 localities .

With 339 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Mignavillers is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (595 people were still counted in 1881), population growth was recorded again, especially during the 1980s. However, a downward trend has been observed again since 1990.
Economy and Infrastructure
Mignavillers was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. Today there are various local small businesses, especially in the construction industry. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the vicinity and in the Belfort-Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Granges-le-Bourg to Athesans-Étroitefontaine. Another road connection is with Senargent-Mignafans.
