La Côte is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

La Côte is located at an altitude of 315 m above sea level, six kilometers east of Lure and about 22 kilometers west of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the eastern part of the department, in the eastern part of the plain of Lure, in the lowlands on both sides of the Rahin , on the southwestern edge of the Vosges .

The area of the 6.93 km² large municipal area includes a section of the plain of Lure. The area is crossed from northeast to southwest by the Rahin, which flows through an alluvial plain and provides drainage to the Ognon . The valley level is an average of 315 m and is around one kilometer wide. Outside the settlement area, the lowland is used for agriculture. Short side streams of the Rahin were dammed for the purpose of fish farming.

The valley of the Rahin is flanked on the north side by the forest area Le Fays (up to 357 m), the subsoil of which consists of Pleistocene gravel deposits. The community area extends to the southeast into the La Noye Jeannin forest . On a wooded hill in the far east, the highest point of La Côte is reached at 362 m. Here red sandstone of the lower Triassic comes to light.

Neighboring municipalities of La Côte are La Neuvelle-lès-Lure and Malbouhans in the north, Ronchamp and Magny-Danigon in the east, Palante in the south and Roye in the west.

history

La Côte was first mentioned in 1187 under the name Costa , and in 1273 as La Coste . In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . La Côte was part of the Faucogney territory. It formed its own lordship, which initially belonged to the Barons of Ronchamp, and later to the Lords of Grammont. In 1341 the place was burned down by troops serving the Duke of Burgundy. Together with Franche-Comté , La Côte finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. With the opening of the railway line from Belfort via Lure to Vesoul, the place was connected to the French railway network in the middle of the 19th century. Today, La Côte is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure, which comprises 22 localities .

Attractions

The single-nave Saint-Hippolyte church was built in the 19th century in neo -Gothic style and has a monumental main altar. The stone bridge that spans the Rahin also dates from the 19th century.
