Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup is a commune in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup is located at an altitude of 263 m above sea level, four kilometers north-northeast of Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse and about 35 kilometers north-northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the far north of the department, on a slope sloping slightly to the south above the lowland of the Ruisseau du Chânet , on the edge of the La Vôge plateau .

The area of ​​the 3.54 km² municipal area covers a section in the gently undulating landscape on the edge of the Vôge. The area is bordered in the southwest by the Ruisseau du Chânet , in the southeast and east by its tributary Ruisseau le Petit . The latter is dammed up below the village to form a 5-hectare pond. The Ruisseau du Chânet flows through an alluvial lowland , which averages 250 m and is approximately one kilometer wide. He ensures the drainage to the south over the Semouse to the Lanterne . To the north, the community area extends over the gently sloping slope from Fleurey to the Bois de la Hoiche . At the edge of the Lyaumont terrace, the highest point of Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup is reached at 331 m. In geological and tectonic terms, the subsoil consists of red sandstone from the Lower Triassic .

Neighboring municipalities of Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup are Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont in the north and east, Magnoncourt in the south and Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse in the west.

history

In 1139, Augustinian Canons founded the Saint-Laurent priory here and laid the foundation for settlement. In the Middle Ages, Fleurey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . The local rulership was held by the prior. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The Tolerance Chapel ( Chapelle de la Tolérance ) in Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup was built in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. Remains of the former Romanesque priory church (12th century) have been preserved. The Mairie (municipal administration) is housed in a former priory building (originally 12th century) with pointed arched windows.

With 134 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (182 people were still counted in 1881), after a slight increase since the mid-1970s, only minor fluctuations were recorded.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Fleurey-lès-Saint-Loup was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are a few local small businesses, including a cabinet maker. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D164 road from Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse to Contrexéville . Another road connection is with Aillevillers .
