Mairie Esmoulières

Esmoulières is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Esmoulières is located at an altitude of 580 m above sea level, five kilometers east-northeast of Faucogney-et-la-Mer and about 44 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the extreme northeast of the department, on the plateau des Mille Étangs in the southwestern Vosges , between the valleys of Breuchin and Beuletin.

The area of the 20.11 km² municipal area comprises a section of the plateau landscape on the southwestern edge of the Vosges. The main part of the area is occupied by the Plateau des Mille Étangs , which rises slightly towards the northeast. At 674 m, the highest point in Esmoulières is reached at the height of Le Fléchot . The plateau shows a loose structure of forest, pasture land, heathland and moors. It reaches an average height of 600 m. In the basin there are numerous small lakes, which are predominantly of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacier grinding. Some have also been dammed up and are used for fish farming.

The valley of the Beuletin is sunk around 100 m deep into the plateau. The steep slopes are predominantly forested. They are subdivided by the valley cuts of various short side streams, including the Ruisseau de la Saulotte and the Ruisseau de la Ferme Vilory (with the Cascade du Brigandoux waterfall ). The Beuletin provides drainage to the west to the Breuchin. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist partly of sediments that were deposited during the Lias , partly the crystalline bedrock emerges. Quaternary deposits can be found on the heights as well as in the valleys . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

In addition to the actual village, Esmoulières includes several hamlets and numerous farms, including:

  • Évouhey (605 m) on the plateau des Mille Étangs
  • Saphoz (380 m) in the valley of the Beuletin
  • Beulotte-la-Guillaume (423 m) in the valley of the Beuletin

Neighboring municipalities of Esmoulières are La Longine and Corravillers in the north, Beulotte-Saint-Laurent and Servance-Miellin with Servance in the east, Faucogney-et-la-Mer in the south and Amont-et-Effreney in the west.

history

Remains of a Neolithic settlement point indicate a very early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages, Esmoulières was part of the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont area . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Esmoulières is a member of the communal association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 localities . The community does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish of Faucogney-et-la-Mer.

Economy and Infrastructure

Esmoulières is still today a predominantly agricultural (dairy and cattle breeding, some arable farming) and forestry village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Faucogney-et-la-Mer to Ramonchamp . Another road connection is with Amont-et-Effreney.
