Bassigney is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Bassigney is located at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, eight kilometers northeast of Faverney and about 22 kilometers north of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of the department, slightly elevated on the northern edge of the wide valley of the Lanterne .
The area of the 6.18 km² municipal area comprises a section in the gently undulating landscape north of the Lanterne valley plain. The southern border runs partially along the Lanterne, which flows here with several turns and near-natural banks through an alluvial lowland to the southwest to the Saône . The valley level lies at an average of 220 m and has a width of around 5 kilometers. It is partly used for agriculture, partly with alluvial forest.
From the course of the river, the municipal area extends northwards over the floodplain to the adjacent hills and into the extensive forest of Bois des Ardennes and Grand Bois on the southern roof of Mont d'Olivette . The highest point in Bassigney is reached here at 305 m. The northern border marks the valley of the Ruisseau du Vass , while the Ruisseau de la Biffotte in parts forms the western boundary. From a geological and tectonic point of view, the area consists of alternating layers of sandy-marl and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).
Bassigney's neighboring communities are Dampierre-lès-Conflans in the north, Conflans-sur-Lanterne in the east and south and Bourguignon-lès-Conflans in the west.
history
Bassigney is first mentioned in a document in 1295. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The monastery of Luxeuil held local rule . The parish mentioned in 1464 was dependent on Faverney. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The Saint-Étienne church was rebuilt in 1776 and has furniture, an altar, paintings and statues from that period. In the town center there are some houses from the 17th to 19th centuries that show the traditional style of the Haute-Saône.

With 127 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Bassigney is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. During the entire 20th century, the population decreased continuously (in 1881 there were still 285 people). Since 1990 the population has remained at an almost constant level.
Economy and Infrastructure
Bassigney is still a predominantly agricultural (arable, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry village. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Bourguignon-lès-Conflans to Varigney. Another road connection is with Dampierre-lès-Conflans.
