Les Fessey municipal administration

Les fessey is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Les Fessey is located at an altitude of 367 m above sea level, 10 km east of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 35 km northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northeastern part of the department, in the western foothills of the Vosges , slightly elevated on the southern edge of the Breuchin valley .

The area of the municipal area of 5.54 km² covers a section of the valley landscape on the western edge of the Vosges. The northern border runs in the middle of the valley of the Breuchin, which flows here with several turns through an alluvial lowland to the west. The flood plain lies at an average of 345 m and has a width of about two kilometers.

From the course of the river, the municipal area extends southwards over the valley lowland to the adjacent height of the Mille Étangs plateau . The landscape is divided into valleys and knolls ( Haut de la Côte , 429 m; Monts Chetons , 439 m). It shows a loose structure of pastureland and forest. In the basin there are numerous small lakes, which are predominantly of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacier grinding. Some ponds were created by the monks for fish farming since the 11th century. At 486 m, Les Fessey's highest point is reached at the height of the Grande Forêt . In geological and tectonic terms, the plateau is made up of crystalline bedrock. On the plateaus there are glacial deposits from the Pleistocene . In some places, red sandstone from the Lower Triassic comes to light. In the far south the parish grounds extend to the valley basin of the Lanterne . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

Les Fessey consists of the following districts:

  • Les Fessey-Dessous (353 m) on the southern edge of the Breuchin valley
  • Les Fessey-Dessus (367 m) slightly elevated above the Breuchin valley level
  • Les Granges-Fouillots (433 m) on the plateau des Mille Étangs

Neighboring municipalities of Les Fessey are Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois in the north, La Voivre in the east, La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts , Belmont and La Corbière in the south and La Proiselière-et-Langle in the west.

history

Les Fessey was first mentioned in a document in 1254. The place name is derived from the Latin personal name Festius . In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Together with Franche-Comté , the place finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The current place name has only been official since 1962; previously called the community Fessey-Dessous-et-Dessus . Today Les Fessey is a member of the community association Communauté de communes des Mille Étangs, which comprises 16 villages . It belongs to the parish of Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois and does not have its own church.

With 124 inhabitants (2007), Les Fessey is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (318 people were still counted in 1886), slight population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Les Fessey is still a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding), forestry and fish farming. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Breuchotte to La Voivre. Other road connections exist with Sainte-Marie-en-Chanois and La Corbière.
