Together with Franche-Comté , Le Val-de-Gouhenans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Toussaint Devault bought the area in 1703 and had a castle built here. Today, Le Val-de-Gouhenans is a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure, which comprises 22 localities .
