La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts is located at an altitude of 454 m above sea level, eleven kilometers east-southeast of Luxeuil-les-Bains and about 34 kilometers northeast of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northeast part of the department, in the western foothills of the Vosges , on the plateau des Mille Étangs in the headwaters of the Lanterne .
The area of the 9.89 km² municipal area covers a section of the plateau landscape on the western edge of the Vosges. The area is occupied by a plateau that belongs to the Mille Étangs plateau . The plateau, which consists partly of crystalline bedrock and partly of red sandstone from the Lower Triassic , was shaped by glaciers during the Ice Ages. The landscape is therefore divided into knolls and hollows. It shows a loose structure of pastureland and forest, heathland and moors. In the basin there are numerous small lakes, which are predominantly of natural origin and formed during the Ice Age by glacier grinding. Some ponds were created or dammed higher by the monks for fish farming since the 11th century. The largest ponds on the parish are the Étang des Sausses , the Étang de la Grande Chaussée and the Étang des Gouttes .
The lantern rises to the north of the village and flows first westwards and later southwards and gradually deepens into the plateau with its alluvial valley . The approximately 500 m wide flood plain marks the western border. The Lanterne takes on two side streams from the east on the commune, including the Ruisseau des Armonts . At 492 m, the highest point in La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts is reached on the heights of the Frahier . The northern border runs in the grove of the Grande Forêt . To the south, the municipal area extends over the heights of Mont Bernard and Mont Gérard into the forest area of Les Armonts . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .
La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts consists of several towns, hamlets and numerous farms:
- La Lanterne (456 m) at the height south of the Lanterne valley
- Les Armonts (415 m) in the basin of the Ruisseau des Armonts
- Les Granges-du-Bois (430 m) at the height east of the Lanterne valley
Neighboring municipalities of La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts are Les Fessey and La Voivre in the north, Écromagny in the east, Mélisey and Lantenot in the south and Belmont in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, La Lanterne and Les Armonts belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Local rule was held by the Lords of Faucogney. Economy and Infrastructure
La Lanterne-et-les-Armonts is still a village dominated by agriculture (especially cattle and dairy farming, as well as arable and fruit growing), forestry and fish farming. Outside of the primary sector there are few jobs in town. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Froideconche to Écromagny. Further road connections exist with Les Fessey and La Voivre.
