Martina Schröck

Martina Schröck (born August 1, 1977 in Bruck an der Mur ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Schröck was a member of the Graz city ​​government from 2010 to 2016 , as Vice Mayor from 2013.

Life

Schröck grew up in Kapfenberg and graduated from the commercial academy in Bruck an der Mur in 1996. She then studied sociology at the Karl Franzens University in Graz until 2004 . Martina Schröck is Dr. soc. oec., the title of her dissertation is: The self-image of people with intellectual disabilities . In 2004, Schröck began to work at Volkshilfe Steiermark as a personnel and organizational developer.

Political career

Since 1994 Schröck was active in the Action Critical Schoolchildren and the Socialist Youth . She was chairwoman of the Styrian Socialist Youth and deputy federal chairwoman of the Austrian Socialist Youth.

In 2005 she was elected to the state parliament, where she was the area spokesperson for social affairs, family, women, kindergartens and senior citizens until 2010. On September 23, 2010 Martina Schröck became Graz City Councilor for Social Affairs, Women and Seniors. She is a member of the SPÖ state party presidium and the state executive committee of the SPÖ Styria. Since September 26, 2011 Schröck was the executive chairwoman of the Graz SPÖ. On January 14, 2012 she was confirmed as party leader of the SPÖ Graz with 95.2 percent of the delegate votes at the city party congress.

In the municipal council election on November 25, 2012, the SPÖ had to accept the worst election result so far in Graz with her as the top candidate with 15.31% of the votes, a loss of 4.41% and a fall back to third place behind the KPÖ.

In the election of the deputy mayor, she was elected deputy mayor on January 25, 2013 in the 5th ballot against Elke Kahr by the KPÖ, candidate of the second largest parliamentary group in the municipal council. She was responsible for the areas of social affairs, youth & family, work and employment, senior citizens, science, women & equality and the children's museum "FRida & freD".

After surprisingly announced her resignation from politics in April 2016, Schröck resigned from the Graz city government on June 16, 2016. Her successor as Vice Mayor was Elke Kahr, the social agendas as city councilor was taken over by her party colleague Michael Ehmann , who had previously been her successor as chairman of the city party. At the same time, she announced that she would withdraw her application as head of the Graz social welfare office. This was controversial due to Schröck's previous responsibility as councilor for this same authority.

Private

Schröck lives in Graz and is married. She is the daughter-in-law of Manfred Wegscheider , an SPÖ politician who was President of the Styrian State Parliament from 2010 to 2012 and Mayor of Kapfenberg until 2017 .
