history

Working for reactivation (April 2008)

The "Déclaration d'utilité publique" of a railway line from Montbozon to Lure took place on July 15, 1885. The line was opened on November 3, 1896. Passenger traffic was discontinued in 1959, freight traffic in 1987. The section from Montbozon to Villersexel was closed / deedicated on January 11, 2002.

The section between Lure and Villersexel was reactivated to supply the Base de Travaux (construction logistics center) of LGV Rhin-Rhône with materials . The work to reactivate the line cost 10 million euros; this prevented 1000 truck journeys per day.

The line was originally supposed to be dismantled after the LGV went into operation, but was retained. The maintenance of a section of the line is intended for the transit of the TGV Lorraine-Méditerranée: a planned connection of the LGV Rhin-Rhône via the Montbozon – Lure railway line, from Lure onwards via the Blainville-Damelevières – Lure railway line . The site of the construction logistics center was taken over by the Conseil Général des Département Haute-Saône for one million euros - a commercial area is now to be built there.

The section that was newly built to connect Base-travaux to the LGV was to serve as a bypass road from Villersexel after the construction work . The first section of the bypass went into operation in September 2012, followed by the second in November. The cost of building the road was 20 million euros.
