The Besançon-Viotte-Vesoul railway is a French railway line in Franche-Comté , which opened on July 22, 1872. This line was originally double-tracked. The section from Besançon to Les Auxons serves as a feeder to the LGV Rhin-Rhône and is used by the TGV and TER . The railway line from Devecey to Vesoul is closed.

history

The "Déclaration d'utilité publique" was issued on February 1, 1862. The line went into operation on July 22, 1872. An experiment with De Dietrich rail buses took place in 1935. Passenger traffic on the entire route, as well as goods traffic on the section from Loulans-les-Forges to Rigney , was suspended on May 11, 1959. On November 3, 1969, freight traffic was stopped on the Devecey- Rigney section . The Devecey – Loulans section was closed on January 14, 1972. Freight trains ran on the Montbozon - Vesoul section until December 16, 1973 . From then until May 31, 1987, only the remaining part of Loulans – Montbozon was in operation for freight traffic, which was served by the Montbozon – Lure railway. On February 8, 1976, the Montbozon – Vesoul section was closed, and on January 11, 2002 the section from Loulans to Montbozon. The Montbozon – Vesoul section is now used as a cycle path. There is a hiking trail from Devecey to Moncey .

Route near Auxon-Dessus after the renewal

Besançon – Devecey section

The Besançon – Devecey section has been in operation again since December 2011 and connects Besançon-Viotte with the Besançon Franche-Comté TGV station . This section has been completely renewed, including electrification, new tracks and new safety technology installed so that up to 5 TGVs can travel to and from the LGV Rhin-Rhône on the route every day . In addition, there are 30 shuttle trains between the two stations every day . The journey time is 15 minutes.

The renewed route will be controlled by a Poste à commande informatisé type PIPC 2006 from THALES . This signal box is linked to the Poste informatisé type SEI of the high-speed line and that of Besançon Viotte station. The commissioning of these systems took place in August 2011, trains have been running according to schedule since December 2011.

With the restart of the line, three new stops for regional traffic should also be created; one has been in operation since September 2013, two more are planned:

  • The “Besançon Portes de Vesoul” stop is said to be near the Chemin de la combe noire. An industrial park is to be built there in the near future. It should be equipped with a 120 m long platform, a parking lot, a bus stop and a bicycle shed. Commissioning is scheduled for 2015.
  • The “ École-Valentin ” stop is located in a central location, west of Route nationale 57 . It has been in operation since September 3, 2013 and TER trains on the Besançon-Viotte – Besançon TGV stop at the two 120 m long outer platforms. In 2012 the platform of the siding was laid, the platform on the through track was built in January 2013. The overpass was installed in July 2013 and has two elevators in addition to stairs. 3.05 million euros were invested, the region contributed 2 million euros. Originally up to 150 new parking spaces were to be created. The station is served by a bus line.
  • The " Miserey-Salines " station is to be located at the western end of the municipality and also has two 120 m long platforms. In addition, 30 parking spaces are to be built, and there will be a shelter for bicycles. Commissioning should have taken place at the end of 2014.

Devecey – Vesoul section

A study was commissioned by the mayor of Vesoul to check whether it would be possible to reactivate the rest of the route.

There was also the idea of leading the TGVs from Lorraine to the Mediterranean via Vesoul to the LGV Rhin-Rhône . However, another study showed that connecting via Lure to the LGV would be much cheaper than connecting via Vesoul. Ultimately, the planning via Vesoul was abandoned and concentrated on the connection via Lure.
