Devecey is a French commune with 1,451 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It is the administrative seat of the Val de la Dame Blanche municipal association .

geography

Devecey is located at 230  m , about ten kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on the southern edge of the valley low of the Ognon opposite Voray-sur-l'Ognon, at the northern foot of the ridge of the Grande Côte in the extreme northwest of the Doubs department.

The area of the 3.78 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Ognon Valley. The main part of the area is occupied by the valley level south of the Ognon. It is drained by the village stream to the Ognon, but the community soil does not reach the river. The main settlement area is on the slightly elevated terrace , consisting of ice-age river deposits. To the south, the municipal area extends over a steep slope up to the height of Châtillon-le-Duc with the Forêt de Chailluz, which is the western continuation of the ridge of the Grande Côte . At 482 m, the highest elevation of Devecey is reached here.

Neighboring communities of Devecey are Voray-sur-l'Ognon in the north, Bonnay in the east, Châtillon-le-Duc in the south and Chevroz in the west.

history

Devecey is mentioned for the first time in an inventory of the monastery of Saint-Vincent in Besançon. During the Middle Ages, the place was under the rule of the monastery. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

Devecey village church was built in 1856 on the site of a 17th century church.

After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 140 and 190 people, a striking population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s. Since then, numerous single-family houses have been built on the outskirts, and the number of inhabitants has increased almost sixfold.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Devecey was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Since the 1970s, a commercial and industrial zone has developed on the outskirts. Mainly companies from the surface treatment, precision mechanics, transport and cardboard manufacturing industries have settled here. There are also numerous retail establishments. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N57, which leads from Besançon to Vesoul . The village center is now relieved of through traffic by a four-lane bypass. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around seven kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Geneuille, Châtillon-le-Duc, Bonnay and Chevroz.
