Mairie Sainte-Anne

Sainte-Anne is a French commune with a population of 42 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Sainte-Anne is located at 631  m above sea level, about 22 kilometers southwest of Ornans and 31 km south of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a plateau southwest of the karst spring of the Lison and east of Mont Poupet .

The area of the 6.64 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the plateau of Sainte-Anne, which lies at an average of 640 m and consists mainly of meadow land. The plateau is on karst subsoil and is home to the 117-meter-deep Gouffre de la Baume cave . A ridge, on which the highest elevation of Sainte-Anne is reached at 742 m, forms the western border and separates the plateau from the deeply cut valley of Bief de Vau . To the east the plateau drops steeply to the deep erosion valley of the Petit Lison , which flows in an arc to the Lison. In the northeast, the plateau ends in a striking, narrow ledge above the basin of Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne . To the southeast, the community area extends over the valley furrow of the Petit Lison to the Bois de Chalem ( 705  m ).

Neighboring municipalities of Sainte-Anne are Nans-sous-Sainte-Anne in the north, Crouzet-Migette in the east, Villeneuve-d'Amont and Dournon in the south and Cernans and Geraise in the west.

history

The village of Sainte-Anne was founded in the first half of the 12th century. The area then belonged to the Buillon monastery. The abbot left it to Hugues de Rans, who had the medieval castle of Sainte-Anne built on the strategically well-protected promontory over the Lison valley. In 1237 the castle came under the sovereignty of the Lords of Chalon . The village was first mentioned as Sancta Anna in 1152. Over time, the spelling changed from Saint Agne (1292), Saint Aigne (1311) and Sante Agne (1352) to Sainte Anne (1413).

During the Thirty Years' War , the Sainte-Anne Castle could not be taken by the troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar . However, it fell in 1674 when the troops of King Louis XIV marched in and was destroyed together with the castle town. Together with Franche-Comté , Sainte-Anne finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, Sainte-Anne is a member of the Loue-Lison Municipal Association .

Attractions

Saint-Thiébaud church

The current village church of Saint-Thiébaud in Sainte-Anne was built in 1689 and replaced the castle church that was destroyed in 1674. Ruins of the former 13th century Sainte-Anne castle are visible. In the old town center, numerous farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. The Pont du Diable, built from 1875 to 1880, crosses the Petit Lison gorge and connects with Crouzet-Migette.

With 42 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Sainte-Anne is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had declined markedly in the first half of the 20th century (108 people were still counted in 1886), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Sainte-Anne was a village dominated by agriculture and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Dournon to Crouzet-Migette.
