Rignosot is a French municipality with 116 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Rignosot is located at 252 m , about 21 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the basin of the Ruisseau de Chazelle, south of the Ognon , in the extreme north-west of the Doubs department.
The area of the 3.85 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Ognon Valley. The main part of the area is occupied by a plain, which is on average 260 m and is drained by the Ruisseau de Chazelle to the northwest to the Ognon. The area mainly shows arable and meadow land. In the northeast, the municipality extends into the extensive forest of the Bois de la Bussière . At 327 m, the highest point in the municipality is reached on the wooded hill between Rignosot and Rigney.
Neighboring communities of Rignosot are Rigney in the west and north, La Tour-de-Sçay in the east and Corcelle-Mieslot in the south.
history
Rignosot is first mentioned in a document in 1245. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the domain of La Roche sur-l'Ognon. Together with Franche-Comté , it finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Rignosot is part of the Doubs Baumois municipal association .

With 116 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Rignosot is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. Throughout the 20th century, the population hovered between 75 and 120 people.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Rignosot was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Besançon to Rougemont . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around ten kilometers away.
