Villers-Grélot is a French municipality with 152 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Villers-Grélot is located at 380 m , ten kilometers west of Baume-les-Dames and about 20 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon , on a slope exposed to the south at the foot of Mont Bichoux .
The area of the 7.02 km² municipal area covers a section in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura . The southern part of the area is occupied by a basin, which is an average of 340 m. It is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land, in the east also with forest ( Gros Buisson ). To the north, the community area extends over the slope of Villers-Grélot up to the ridge of Mont Bichoux with the Bois de la Côte du Mont . Here, at 509 m, the highest point in Villers-Grélot is reached. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil .
Neighboring communities of Villers-Grélot are La Tour-de-Sçay , Cendrey and Rougemontot in the north, Val-de-Roulans in the east, Le Puy in the south and Pouligney-Lusans in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Villers-Grélot was part of the Roulans rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 152 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Villers-Grélot is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (236 people were still counted in 1881), the population has continued to grow again since the early 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Villers-Grélot was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Corcelle-Mieslot to Val-de-Roulans. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Another road connection is with Le Puy.
