The village extends in the gently undulating landscape between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north, in the basin of the Ruisseau de Recologne.

The area of the 2.25 km² large municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The area is slightly undulating and consists mainly of arable and meadow land, there are also some forest areas. From southwest to northeast it is crossed by the valley of the Ruisseau de Recologne (also Ruisseau du Breuil), which receives an inflow from the left through the Ruisseau de Lantenne above the village and provides drainage to the Ognon. The valley basins are flanked by hills, which usually do not tower above the valley floodplain by more than 50 meters. At 270 m, the highest point of Corcelles-Ferrières is reached on the hill southwest of the village.

history

Corcelles-Ferrières originated from the Cistercian Abbey of Corcelles , founded in the 12th century , around which a settlement gradually developed. The monastery ruled the village, but the Lords of Corcondray also had rights over Corcelles. In the war of Henry IV against the Spaniards, the monastery was occupied in 1595 and the village looted and set on fire. The monastery properties were subsequently transferred to aristocratic families in the region and in 1790 became state property. Together with Franche-Comté , Corcelles-Ferrières finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Corcelles-Ferrières is a member of the Val Marnaysien municipal association .

Attractions

The village church of Corcelles-Ferrières originally goes back to the former monastery church from the 12th century, but has since been restored and changed several times. Parts of the convent buildings have also been preserved. The lavoir dates from the 18th century . The old town center is characterized by various houses from the 17th to 19th centuries in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté.

With 200 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Corcelles-Ferrières is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (in 1906 there were still 96 people counted), strong population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Corcelles-Ferrières was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the Besançon agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Saint-Vit to Recologne . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around ten kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Lantenne-Vertière and Corcondray.
