Gondenans-les-Moulins is a French commune with a population of 72 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Gondenans-les-Moulins is located at 285 m , 13 kilometers north of Baume-les-Dames and about 37 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on the southern edge of the Ognon Valley , at the northern foot of the high plateau that extends between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon.
The area of the 3.93 km² municipal area covers a section of the undulating landscape between the Doubs and Ognon. The northern part of the area has a relatively weak relief. It is drained north to the Drigeon by the Dorfbach, which rises at the foot of a steep valley end . From the valley basin of Gondenans, the community area extends southward over an approximately 120 m high step up to the arid, karstified high plateau of the Plain Bois , which is densely forested. The slope is crowned in various places by a ledge that also has several caves. On the plateau of the Plain Bois, the highest point of Gondenans-les-Moulins is reached at 438 m.
Neighboring communities of Gondenans-les-Moulins are Cuse-et-Adrisans in the north, Fontenelle-Montby in the east, Romain and Gouhelans in the south and Rougemont in the west.
history
The caves above Gondenans-les-Moulins were already inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Grotte de l'Ours and the Grotte du Fer à Cheval, remains have been found that indicate the presence of Neanderthals and cave bears.
In the 12th century a castle was built, which was the center of a rule. It was destroyed in 1475, then rebuilt in the Italian Renaissance style and devastated again during the Thirty Years War in 1636. Together with Franche-Comté , Gondenans finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Gondenans-les-Moulins is part of the Deux Vallées Vertes municipal association .
Attractions
The village church, which dates back to a medieval chapel from the 13th century, was rebuilt in the 17th century in the classical style. The castle dates from the 18th century. Of the once four mills along the Drigeon, the Moulin de la Doin has been preserved.

Economy and Infrastructure
Gondenans-les-Moulins was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, viticulture, fruit growing and cattle breeding) well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road D50, which leads from Baume-les-Dames to Villersexel . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around twelve kilometers away. There are other road connections with Rougemont and Clerval .
