Chevroz is a French municipality with 131 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Chevroz is located at 216 m , about eleven kilometers north of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on the edge of the valley of the Ognon , in the gently undulating landscape in the extreme north-west of the Doubs department.
The area of the 1.98 km² large municipality covers a section of the Ognon valley. The western and northern borders run along the Ognon, which flows here with several windings through a flat valley low about one kilometer wide. From the course of the river, the community area extends southwards over the wide, formerly boggy floodplain to the adjacent slightly undulating landscape. This consists partly of arable land and meadow, partly of forest. At 251 m, the highest elevation of Chevroz is reached in the community forest.
Neighboring municipalities of Chevroz are Voray-sur-l'Ognon in the north, Devecey in the east, Châtillon-le-Duc in the south and Bussières in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, a castle was built near Chevroz, which controlled the ford of the Ognon. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Nicolas in Chevroz was built in 1781. The château , flanked by four towers and located in a large park, dates from the 15th century .

With 131 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Chevroz is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. Throughout the 20th century, the population always fluctuated between 55 and 100 people.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Chevroz was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is away from the major thoroughfares, but is still easily accessible. The only access is from Devecey on the main road N57, which runs from Besançon to Vesoul . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 8 km away.
