Venise is a French municipality with 513 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Venise is located at 239 m , about 13 kilometers north-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the headwaters of the Ruisseau de la Fontaine on the southern edge of the valley low of the Ognon , at the northern foot of the ridge of the Grande Côte in the extreme north-west of the Doubs department.
The area of the 6.18 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Ognon Valley. The northern border runs partly along the Ognon, partly in the flat valley south of the river. This flat northern part of the municipality, which is mainly composed of arable and meadow land, is drained by the Ruisseau de la Fontaine, which rises in the village . To the south, the community area extends over a densely wooded slope to the crest of the Grande Côte . This ridge forms an anticline in geological and tectonic terms and is oriented towards the southwest-northeast. At 516 m, the highest point in Venise is reached on the Grande Côte.
Neighboring municipalities of Venise are Palise , Aulx-lès-Cromary and Moncey in the north, Champoux in the east, Marchaux-Chaudefontaine in the south and Vieilley in the west.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Martin was built in 1846 in the style of neoclassicism . The community hall (Mairie) now stands on the site of the former chapel.

With 513 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Venise is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 180 and 220 people, a striking population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s. Since then the number of inhabitants has more than doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Venise was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the Besançon agglomeration.
The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Devecey to Moncey. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. Another road connection is with Palise.
