Cussey-sur-Lison is a French commune with a population of 65 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Cussey-sur-Lison is located at 320  m , about 20 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The farming village extends in the Jura , in a valley on both sides of the Goulue stream, west of the Lison valley .

The area of ​​the municipality of 5.66 km² covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Cussey valley. It has a length of two kilometers and a width of one kilometer (at the upper edge of the valley) and is drained by the Goulue. The steep valley slopes are around 130 meters high on three sides and are crowned by limestone cliffs on the upper edge. The community area also extends to the predominantly wooded high plateau into which the valley of Cussey is sunk. Here is 478 meters above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Cussey-sur-Lison. To the east, the valley opens up to the Lison valley, with part of the eastern slope still belonging to Cussey-sur-Lison.

Neighboring municipalities of Cussey-sur-Lison are Goux-sous-Landet and Rouhe in the north, Châtillon-sur-Lison and Lizine in the east, Échay in the south and Le Val with Pointvillers in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Cussey was part of the Châtillon-sur-Lison domain. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The single-nave Saint-Christophe church in Cussey-sur-Lison was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style and has changed little since then. The old town center is characterized by various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries. A stone bridge from the 18th century leads over the Lison.

With 65 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Cussey-sur-Lison is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (127 people were still counted in 1881), relatively strong population growth on a small basis was recorded again in the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Cussey-sur-Lison was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Épeugney to Salins-les-Bains .
