Mairie Séchin

Séchin is a French municipality with 113 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Séchin is located at 358  m , six kilometers west of Baume-les-Dames and about 23 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon , on a plateau that connects to the north of the Doube valley, on the southern edge of the Bois du Grand Val.

The area of the 1.09 km² large municipal area includes a section in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura . The central part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is an average of 350 m and slopes slightly to the south towards the Doube valley. It consists mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. To the north, the municipality extends over a gently sloping slope into the forest of the Bois du Grand Val , where the highest elevation of Séchin is reached at 398 m. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

Neighboring municipalities of Séchin are Baume-les-Dames in the north, Grosbois and Fourbanne in the east, Ougney-Douvot in the south and Breconchaux in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Séchin belonged to the Clerval domain , which had been under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. After resistance fighters opposed a German troop during the Second World War in 1944, the village of Séchin was set on fire in retaliation and six people were shot.

Since then the number of inhabitants has almost tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Séchin was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N83, which leads from Besançon to Montbéliard . The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is about ten kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Ougney-Douvot and Breconchaux.
