Lomont-sur-Crête is a French municipality with 171 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Lomont-sur-Crête is located at 520 m , six kilometers east-southeast of Baume-les-Dames and about 32 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (beeline). The village extends in the Jura , in a panoramic position on a wide ridge, which belongs to the western foothills of the Lomont chain , south of the Doube valley .
The area of the municipality of 9.79 km² covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the ridge of the Lomont, which is divided into several hills and ends in the Bois du Saussoi in the west . At 568 m, the highest point in Lomont-sur-Crête is reached on the hill west of the village. In the north, the municipality reaches down into the valley of Villers-Saint-Martin. On its south side, the ridge is preceded by a plateau, which averages 460 m and is slightly inclined to the south. This area is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas. The southern municipal boundary is mostly marked by the southern edge of the plateau above the steep drop to the Cusancin valley .
Neighboring municipalities of Lomont-sur-Crête are Villers-Saint-Martin , Hyèvre-Magny and Roche-lès-Clerval in the north, Crosey-le-Petit in the east, Cusance in the south and Guillon-les-Bains in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Lomont belonged to the Passavant rule, which came under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In order to avoid confusion with the homonymous municipality Lomont in the Haute-Saône department, the place was officially renamed Lomont-sur-Crête in 1923.

With 171 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Lomont-sur-Crête is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (246 people were still counted in 1886), a slight population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Lomont-sur-Crête was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Some workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Baume-les-Dames to Crosey-le-Petit. Another road connection is with Cusance.
