Gevresin is a French municipality with 118 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Gevresin is located at 663 m above sea level, about 25 kilometers west-northwest of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a hollow between the deep erosion valley of the Lison in the west and the high plateau of Levier in the east.
The area of the 6.91 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Gevresin depression. It is crossed by a stream, which however seeps into a sinkhole in the area of the village . This hollow is bordered by several parallel ridges in the south and north. To the south and east, the community soil extends into the extensive forest of the Forêt de Levier . The northern boundary is the ridge of the Côte Brochet . Here, at 783 m, Gevresin's highest elevation is reached.
Neighboring communities of Gevresin are Montmahoux in the north, Labergement-du-Navois and Levier in the east, Villeneuve-d'Amont in the south and Crouzet-Migette in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Gevresin belonged to the lordship of Montmahoux , which was under the sovereignty of the Lords of Chalon. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2002, Gevresin has been a member of the community association Communauté de communes Altitude 800, which comprises 11 localities .
Attractions
The village church of Sainte-Madeleine was built from 1823 to 1826 and restored in 1970. In the old town center, some farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

With 118 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Gevresin is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (197 people were still counted in 1881), only relatively minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Gevresin was mainly a village characterized by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Villeneuve-d'Amont to Labergement-du-Navois. Another road connection is with Crouzet-Migette.
