Mairie Luxiol

Luxiol is a French municipality with 161 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Luxiol is located at 392  m , four kilometers north of Baume-les-Dames and about 29 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon , on the southwestern edge of a high plateau, at the north foot of the Framont.

The area of the 6.44 km² large municipal area includes a section in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura . The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average at 380 m. It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows some smaller forest areas. To the northwest, the communal soil extends into the forest area of the Bois du Raz . The plateau is flanked on its south side by the ridge of the Framont , which separates it from the adjacent Doubstal. The highest point of Luxiol is reached at 519 m at the predominantly wooded height. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

Neighboring municipalities of Luxiol are Verne in the north, Autechaux in the east, Baume-les-Dames in the south and Fontenotte in the west.

With 161 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Luxiol is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (232 people were still counted in 1911), slight population growth has been recorded again in recent years.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Luxiol was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Autechaux to La Bretenière. The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is around four kilometers away. Another road connection exists with Verne.
