Le Puy is a French commune of 112 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Le Puy is located at 327 m , ten kilometers west of Baume-les-Dames and about 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon , in a basin between the forest heights of Mont Bichoux in the north and Bois du Poirier in the south.
The area of the 3.42 km² large municipal area includes a section in the extreme northwestern mountain ranges of the Jura . The main part of the area is occupied by a basin, which is on average 320 m. It is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land. To the east, the municipal area extends with a narrow strip into the wooded area of the Bois des Nuées . Here, at 375 m, the highest elevation of Le Puy is reached. There are no above-ground rivers in the entire area because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
Neighboring municipalities of Le Puy are Villers-Grélot in the north, Val-de-Roulans in the east, L'Écouvotte , Saint-Hilaire and Vennans in the south and Pouligney-Lusans in the west.
history
The place name goes back to the French word puits (well). Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
In a forest east of the village stands the Notre-Dame de la Délivrance chapel, which was built in 1854.

With 112 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Le Puy is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 55 and 80 people, a decline was recorded until the mid-1970s. There has been a significant increase in population in recent years.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Le Puy was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pouligney to Villers-Grélot. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Lusans, L'Écouvotte and Saint-Hilaire.
