Mairie Blarians |
Blarians is a French commune with a population of 57 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Blarians is located at 240 m , about 23 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends on a hill on the edge of the valley of the Ognon opposite Beaumotte-Aubertans, in the gently undulating landscape in the extreme north-west of the Doubs department.
The area of the municipality, which is only 0.89 km² in size, includes a section of the Ognon Valley. The area is bounded on three sides (in the north, west and south) by the course of the Ognon, which flows here with large loops through a flat valley that is around one kilometer wide. Former gravel and sand pits in the valley were filled with water. From the course of the river, the community area extends to the east over the wide floodplain to a hill, on which the highest elevation of Blarians is reached at 267 m.
Neighboring communities of Blarians are Beaumotte-Aubertans in the north, Germondans in the east and La Barre in the south and west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Blarians belonged to the Granges rule, which had been under the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today Blarians is part of the Doubs Baumois municipal association .

Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Blarians was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Rigney to Beaumotte-Aubertans. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around twelve kilometers away.
