Beaumotte-Aubertans is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Beaumotte-Aubertans is located at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, eight kilometers southwest of Montbozon and about 22 kilometers south of the city of Vesoul (as the crow flies). The double community extends in the south of the department on the northern edge of the valley plain of the Ognon , on the southern edge of the forests of the Grands Bois.
The area of the 13.57 km² municipal area includes a section of the central Ognon Valley. The southern border runs along the Ognon. This flows here with large meanders through an approximately one kilometer wide alluvial plain , which averages 230 m. From the plain, the community area extends northward over a steep slope onto the adjacent plateau, which is mainly composed of arable and meadow land and is subdivided by the valley of the village stream of Beaumotte. Further north are the heights of the Grands Bois (up to 302 m), the Bois du Grand Bief and the Bois de Bellevaux , which are covered by extensive forests and reach the highest point of Beaumotte-Aubertans at 328 m. This plateau consists of limestone layers from the upper Jurassic period . North of the Grands Bois is the Aubertans basin , through which the Quenoche , a tributary of the Linotte , flows. In the far north the area extends into the Bois Lajus .
The double community consists of the following districts:
- Beaumotte (240 m) on the edge of the valley of the Ognon
- Aubertans (260 m) in the valley widening of the Quenoche north of the Grands Bois
- Le Magny (262 m) on the plateau on the eastern edge of the Bois de Bellevaux
Neighboring parishes of Beaumotte-Aubertans are Authoison and Villers-Pater in the north, Loulans-Verchamp and Cenans in the east, Germondans , Blarians , La Barre and Vandelans in the south and Cirey and Ruhans in the west.
history
A church at Beaumotte is mentioned as early as 1120. It was under the monastery of Saint-Paul in Besançon. In the Middle Ages, Beaumotte and Aubertans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . Together with Franche-Comté , both villages came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In the 17th century, Beaumotte was largely depopulated before emigrants from Savoy settled it again. At the Ognon, trade, which was dependent on hydropower, was established early on. The forge, which was converted into a wire drawing shop in the middle of the 19th century, was of regional importance.
There was a change of area in 1807, when the previously independent Magny-les-Cirey (1806: 149 inhabitants) was incorporated into Beaumotte. To distinguish it from Beaumotte-lès-Pin , the municipality had been called Beaumotte-lès-Montbozon since the 19th century. In 1972 the municipalities of Beaumotte-lès-Montbozon and Aubertans (1968: 94 inhabitants) merged to form the new municipality of Beaumotte-lès-Montbozon-et-Aubertans. The municipality name was changed to Beaumotte-Aubertans in 1977. Since 2000 Beaumotte-Aubertans has been a member of the Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon, which comprises 21 localities .
Attractions
Beaumotte Church, which has no tower, was rebuilt in the 19th century. The rich furnishings include an altar and pulpit from the 18th century as well as remarkable statues of the Blessed Virgin and John from the 15th and 16th centuries.
Other sights include the Beaumotte Grotto, the covered Fontaine- Lavoir in Beaumotte, and in Aubertans the church and some houses in the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône from the 18th century.

With 383 inhabitants (1999) Beaumotte-Aubertans is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (496 people were still counted in 1891), the population has continued to grow steadily since the mid-1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Beaumotte-Aubertans was an industrial community early on. Today Beaumotte has an electronics company and a sheet metal factory. There are also various local small businesses. Thanks to the large municipal area, agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry also play a certain role. However, many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Loulans-Verchamps to Cirey. There are other road links with Traitiéfontaine, Quenoche, Authoison, Germondans and La Barre.
