Chenevrey-et-Morogne is a municipality in the French department of Haute-Saône in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Chenevrey-et-Morogne is located at an altitude of 205 m above sea level, three kilometers west of Marnay and about 22 kilometers west-northwest of the city of Besançon (as the crow flies). The village extends in the south of the department, in a hollow on the northern edge of the valley plain of the Ognon , on the southwest edge of the Monts de Gy.

The area of the 8.86 km² municipal area includes a section of the lower Ognon Valley. The southern border mostly runs along the Ognon. This flows here with numerous turns to the west through an alluvial plain , which has a width of about two kilometers and averages 200 m. From the course of the river, the community area extends northward over the valley floor and up the adjacent, gently sloping slopes that form the southwestern foothills of the Monts de Gy. These hills are made up of tertiary sediments . While the floodplain and the slopes near the valley are mainly used for agriculture, the ridge of the Bois du Mont is covered with forest. Here, at 290 m, the highest point of Chenevrey-et-Morogne is reached. The western boundary forms the valley of the Bief de Lancey , a short side stream of the Ognon.

The double community consists of the village of Chenevrey (205 m) on the northern edge of the valley floor and the hamlet of Morogne (199 m) on the Bief de Lancey just before its confluence with the Ognon. Neighboring municipalities of Chenevrey-et-Morogne are Cult in the north, Marnay in the east, Burgille , Courchapon and Jallerange in the south and Sornay and Bay in the west.

history

Chenevrey was first mentioned in a document in 1102. In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . From the 13th century it formed a parish dependent on the Sainte-Madeleine monastery in Besançon. The local rule was held by the Lords of Marnay. Together with Franche-Comté , Chenevrey finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1808 the hamlet of Morogne (1806: 74 inhabitants), which previously formed its own municipality, was merged with Chenevrey. In 1823 Morogne regained its independence, but a few years later it was finally merged with Chenevrey. Since 2002, Chenevrey-et-Morogne has been a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallée de l'Ognon, which comprises 15 localities .

Attractions

The Saint-Ferréol-et-Ferjeux church was built in Gothic style and extensively restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. It houses a rich interior, including an altar from the 17th century, furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, relics made of silver (18th century), a gilded chalice from 1741 and various grave slabs. The oratoire dates from the 18th century. In the old town center, numerous houses from the 17th century have been preserved, which show the characteristic style of the Haute-Saône.

With 308 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Chenevrey-et-Morogne is one of the small communities in the Haute-Saône department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (406 people were still counted in 1891), slight population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Chenevrey-et-Morogne was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Besançon agglomeration.

The place is off the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Marnay to Pesmes . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 20 km away. Another road connection is with Cult.
